September is the ideal month to start a lawn maintenance programme. Scarifying the lawns at this time of year, using a scarifier or a spring rake, will allow sufffficient time for the grass to recover before temperatures drop and the growth rate slows. The three small lawns next to the orchard are scarified first and will be spiked next week.
