Tulips And Wallflowers

The 300 Lily Flowered Triumph Mixed Tulips planted last November in the border at the bottom of the quadrangle are now in flower amongst the wallflower 'Sunset Primrose'. The "explosion of colour" that the team were looking forward to has arrived and is all they had hoped for.

The display seen in corner border is also, if not more than the team had hoped for when they planted it out last year. The summer display was removed in September, see blog entry 'Before Construction, Comes Destruction' and the Wallflower 'Sunset Orange' planted. The royal blue Forget-Me-Not, Myosotis, was added in October, blog entry 'Adding The Royal Blue To The Sunset Orange' followed by the planting of the yellow tulip 'West Point' a month later, blog entry 'Queen Of The Night, West Point, National Velvet and China Pink'. This week, in the warms spring sunshine, the college gardens are a blaze with colour which the students will be greeted with when they return on Easter Sunday.

  2. Hi, everyone-
Spring greetings from Alabama. We need to be over there in the spring to see the beautiful spring flowers in addition to all the lovely flowers we get to see in summer. It has been tulip and dogwood time here. The pansies also are enjoying the cool spring air before the hot summer rolls around. We think of all of you often, and hope you are well.
We are very sad to learn about Karen and send everyone our deepest sympathy. The best to you, Allen J.

    1. Hello Alabama, Spring greeting from the team at Worcester. The warm spring sunshine certainly is making the flowers bloom, the wisteria will be flowering in the next week or so providing another stunning display.
We are all shocked by the loss of Karen, she will be greatly missed, thank you. Best Regards Ali

  3. The corner border looked stunning when I was at Worcester College (Easter weekend): people were stopping in their tracks as they came through the tunnel. Fabulous! Not only beautiful display but the scent of the wallflowers was overwhelming. However, I was not convinced by the mixed tulips in the Quad border - call me an old fashioned garden snob, but it was suburban and frankly naff, especially in comparison with other tastefully composed colour schemes in the Worcester grounds. 'Explosion of colour' could be achieved by careful choice of red, deep purple and orange tulips with (maybe) euphorbia as contrast. It works for me.
Looking forward to fabulous summer displays @ Worcester.

  4. Hello
I'm an undergrad student at Worcester making the Worcester College Charity Calendar for 2015, in support of Crisis Skylight Oxford (100% of the profits go to charity). I saw the above photo of the cottages with the tulips and loved it. The photo would be great in the calendar. Do you have an email address I could contact the photographer on?
    Thank you
